Project Ideas
Deep in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest grows a special tree called the Tagua (pronounced tog-wah), or ivory palm, that produces the Tagua Nut. A palm’s yearly harvest is the equivalent of ivory from one female elephant. This bracelet uses some wonderful new techniques.
1 - Tagua Nut button (stamped)
1 - copper toggle clasp
3 - 3mm copper jump rings
7 - copper accent beads
21 - assorted glass beads
24 - copper head pins
67 - 5mm 16 gauge copper jump rings
Tools:
Two pairs of needle-nose pliers
Wire cutters
Round nose pliers
Small leaf rubber stamp
Black Staz-On ink pad
Two color of alcohol inks to match glass beads
Stamping on the Tagua Nut:
- Using the rubber stamp and black Staz-On Ink, stamp the design on the Tagua Nut. Let dry.
- Add additional color with the alcohol ink by using a small detail paint brush. Simply dab a small amount of ink onto the areas using the brush. Let dry.
Assembling the Bracelet:
- Hook a large jump ring through the holes of the Tagua Nut button and close it. Set aside.
- Close 2 large jump rings. Connect and close 2 more large jump rings through both closed jump rings. Using 28 large jump rings: keep connecting them together 2 at a time to make 16 links.
- Now, add one more large jump ring through both jump rings at the end of your chain and also through the jump ring of your Tagua Nut, and close.
- Repeat this process for the other half of the bracelet.
- Hook and close a small jump ring to the bar half of your clasp. Then use another small jump ring to connect the clasp and one end of the chain together and close.
- Use 1 small jump ring to connect the other half of your clasp to the other end of the bracelet and close.
- Feed one glass bead onto a head pin. Bend the head pin at a right angle at the top of the bead. Use the wire cutters to cut the head pin leaving about a ¼”. Use the round nose pliers to make a loop wit the ¼” of head pin. Don’t close the loop all the way.
- Repeat step 7 until you have made 21 bead charms. Use this same technique to turn the copper accent beads into charms too.
- Now attach all the charms you made to each link of jump rings on your bracelet. You should have a total of 28 charms; one on each link.
